BBCF Statement Condemning Recent Demonstrations of Racism

“The vision of the Black Belt Community Foundation of Alabama is one of a transformed region where all of our residents contribute to healthy communities and reap the benefits of our shared gifts and a productive regional economy. The principles that guide this vision are honesty, diversity, and courage in the stewardship of charitable resources. We value the strengths of pluralistic communities where economic, racial and social justice are practiced in a spirit of trust and sincerity.

As we seek to live these principles daily, we must speak out forcefully about recent events where demonstrations of hatred, racism, and bigotry have received national attention. The board and staff of the Black Belt Community Foundation condemn in the strongest terms the moral evil these demonstrations represent. In denouncing those who would divide and destroy, we hold up instead a positive vision of unity, respect, diversity, love, and courage.

In this historic region where we have lived, endured, and overcome past injustice and division, we call loudly and clearly for all people to reject these forces of hate and join us in bringing our community together in a renewed spirit of harmony and trust. Together we will overcome. Together we will rise above and lift all of our brothers and sisters as we do.”
