Big day today for arts education. A few minutes ago, the Senate voted to approve the Every Child Achieves Act (S.1177) by a vote of 81-17, a remarkable finish, especially considering the numerous amendments that were filed (nearly 200 amendments) and controversial provisions that could have sunk the bill.

Today’s vote sets the House and Senate towards work for negotiating a final bill that can be signed into law. That work begins now.

Overall, bipartisan passage of this bill is a great success to bringing Congress a step closer to enacting new federal K-12 education law, that’s been long overdue.
