SELMA, AL (Feb 25, 2025) – The Black Belt Community Foundation (BBCF), the Selma Housing Authority, Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America (NACA) and City of Selma, AL have partnered to give away a newly constructed home to one family enrolled in the BBCF Head Start program serving Dallas County. A total of 25 eligible families who qualified by demonstrating financial hardship and lack of access to stable housing applied directly to BBCF for entry into a drawing for the free house giveaway. This drawing will occur publicly on Friday, February 28^th in Selma, AL at 10AM Central Time. Location: 1425 Washington Street, Selma, AL 36703.

Selma Housing Authority President/CEO Kennard Randolph who is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors for BBCF stated, “On Friday, we are overjoyed to celebrate not just a change of address, but a new beginning filled with hope and opportunity. Every family deserves a place they can call home, and together, we are making that dream a reality.”

Bruce Marks, CEO of NACA, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “We are proud to partner in revitalizing this tornado devastated community in Selma with high-quality, affordable homes—something many thought wasn’t possible. NACA is committed to making this the new standard for Selma and communities across the country.”

This marks the partnership’s second home giveaway in Selma, following the highly publicized 2024 gift of a home to Tamicka Newberry and her family, who lost their housing in the wake of a devastating tornado. That initiative highlighted the urgent need for safe, affordable, and storm-resistant housing in the region and reinforced BBCF’s ongoing mission to strengthen families and communities.

Media and community members are encouraged to arrive ahead of the 10AM drawing start. Food truck service and an on-site DJ will add to the festive nature of this public event. Remarks and speakers will include the winning family of the house giveaway, Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr., BBCF CEO & President Felecia Lucky, SHA President and CEO Kennard Randolph, Dr. Taquila Monroe, BBCF Head Start Director and President of the Alabama Head Start Association, and Bruce Marks, CEO of NACA, Congressional office representatives and other community and government officials.
