Join Us for a 1-5k Walk/Run and The Orrville Community Walking Path Ribbon-Cutting

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Orrville Community Walking Trail will be held along with a walk/run event on April 23.

The ribbon cutting will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Keith High School with lunch provided. Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP to Grace Okoro at okoro@uabmc.edu or 205-259-8495 by Friday, April 9.

Okoro is a program manager at UAB’s Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center or MHRC. The trail was built by the Orrville Building Healthy Communities Coalition, an initiative by the MHRC and the Obesity Health Disparities Research Center at UAB.

“This trail is dedicated to improving the lives of the residents of Orrville,” said Grace Okoro said in an announcement from UAB. “I am so thankful for the continued dedication to the Orrville BHC coalition. We are truly a family.”

The Dallas County Board of Education and the Black Belt Community Foundation also contributed to the project.

In addition to the ribbon cutting ceremony there will be a Healthier You walk at the Orrville Community Center in memory of Rhonda Harris-Vaughan.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the Orrville Community Center, followed by the walk/run at 9 a.m.

There is a $20 registration fee which includes participation in the walk or run, as well as a WALK t-shirt. All proceeds from the event will go toward college scholarships.

Afterwards, participants will go to the high school for the ribbon cutting.
