About This Event
As 2020 draws to a close, we look back on one of the most memorably challenging years in history. Despite the new challenges we now face, the long-standing ones of our rural communities in the Black Belt persist, and are, in fact, now amplified due to the compounding pressures from the pandemic and myriad social pressures mounting like never before in history. The plight of dwindling communities and youth who seek their future elsewhere instead of strengthening the ranks of hometown leaders and game changers is one that has been played out time and again across the Alabama Black Belt. In an effort to combat that sad refrain, Dr. Arthur Dunning and Karen Baynes-Dunning have announced the establishment of the William Curry Scholarship for Academic and Community Leadership through the Black Belt Community Foundation (BBCF). Dr. Dunning and Mr. Taylor Jones will serve as leadership for these efforts into the future.
As we celebrate the holidays, we would like to invite you to a very special introduction event for the new scholarship. Our event will be an hour long on-line ZOOM event on (Wednesday, Dec. 16th at 1PM CST) for you to be able to attend safely over the comfort of a home computer or smart phone and enjoy some holiday cheer in fellowship as we share some information about our plans. We strive to move the academic and professional opportunities for our youth from a Labor Culture to a Learning Culture, and we do this with a mindset of investing in our youth for a strengthened return on a bright community future. THANK YOU, for being a very important part of this.
