On behalf of the Black Belt Community Foundation (BBCF), we are pleased to announce the BBCF’s Black Belt Legacy Dinner on Monday, October 5, 2026, beginning with a cocktail reception at 6:00 P.M. at the Elevation Hotel & Convening Center located at 600 Montgomery St, Montgomery, AL.
Established in 2014, the Black Belt Legacy Dinner honors leaders from throughout the state of Alabama who have distinguished themselves in providing leadership and support of BBCF’s mission. Funds raised in honor of these distinguished leaders provide grant support for nonprofits in the Black Belt Region.
This year, BBCF’s Legacy Dinner will honor Bryan Stevenson, founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative. Over 150 business, civic, and community leaders will gather at the Legacy Dinner to celebrate their collective work in helping to transform the Black Belt Communities.

Bryan Stevenson is the founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), a nationally recognized human rights organization based in Montgomery, Alabama. A widely acclaimed public interest lawyer, Stevenson has dedicated his career to advocating for the poor, the incarcerated, and the wrongly condemned.
Under his leadership, EJI has won major legal challenges addressing excessive sentencing, wrongful convictions, and the treatment of children in the criminal legal system. His work in Alabama helped bring national attention to issues of injustice deeply connected to the history and communities of the Black Belt region. Stevenson also led the creation of EJI’s internationally recognized Legacy Sites, including the Legacy Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice.
A graduate of Harvard Law School and the Harvard School of Government, Stevenson is the author of the bestselling memoir Just Mercy, which was adapted into an award-winning feature film.
